Peer Career Advisors

Peer Career Advisor

Peer Career Advisors are current RPI students trained by Center for Career and Professional Development staff to help undergraduate and graduate students with career topics such as resume and cover letter reviews, basic job search strategies and resources, and other general advice. This student-support initiative has provided a platform for students to foster community and offer career guidance to peers across all majors and academic levels. Students have the option of booking appointments on Handshake and attending drop-in hours with PCAs.

If you have questions about the PCA Program, please contact Emily Killian (killie@rpi.edu).

I am a graduate student pursuing a masters degree in Chemical Engineering focusing on pharmaceutical purification development and regulation. I graduated from RPI with my bachelors in Chemical Engineering and Business & Management in 2025. Some of the fun places I have interned at are Regeneron, Coty, the US Geological Survey, and a small biotechnology start-up, StemCultures. On campus, I have been involved in student government; professional organizations like AIChE, SHPE, and Tau Beta Pi; and research in the Chemical Engineering and Biochemistry/Biophysics departments. I became a Peer Career Advisor because I enjoy supporting students in their career growth, having done so previously as a part of the SHPE-NSBE Career fair and as a freshman Learning Assistant. Over three years as a PCA, I have had the opportunity to assist students with their career goals and truly make an impact on campus. In my free time, I enjoy fencing, curling, and a good Stewart’s shake.

I am a senior dual majoring in computational biology and biochemistry/biophysics. I became a PCA because I loved the idea of making resume reviews and career guidance more accessible and providing a student perspective. All the students I have met with are super approachable and kind. Everyone carries their different perspectives and experiences which is very interesting to see from the lens of a PCA.

Apart from being a PCA, I’m deeply involved in several campus organizations. I serve as the Senior Advisor (and former President) of the RPI Women’s Mentoring Program (WMP), where I led a mentor-mentee initiative designed to support freshman women as they transition into college life. I’m also the Secretary (and previously served as President and Vice President) of Beta Beta Beta, RPI’s Biological Honor Society, which fosters interest in biology and cutting-edge research. In addition, I’m the Vice President of RPI Science Ambassadors, where we promote scientific curiosity and awareness through outreach and education.

In terms of internships, I was selected for 2 competitive summer internships at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). After my freshman year, I investigated the gating and regulatory mechanisms of the human magnesium ion channel MRS2 in the Matthies lab at the NICHD/NIH. The following summer, I explored the scrambling activity of the TMC proteins located in the Mechanoelectrical Transduction (MET) Complex critical for hearing in the Ballesteros lab at the NIDCD/NIH. At RPI, I conduct research in the Hurley Lab, where I explore how circadian rhythms affect mouse macrophage responses using a multi-OMICs approach.

I am a senior Environmental Engineering major. I became a PCA because I want to help other students navigate the job market and figure out what they need to do to become successful in their chosen profession!

As an Environmental Engineering major I am most interested in water quality and reuse. The summer after my Freshman year, I participated in a summer REU program at the University of Mississippi focusing on improving wastewater treatment methods, and I have interned at Arcadis, an engineering consulting firm, for the past two summers where I am working on a lot of different projects having to do with water treatment and management. At RPI, I am a member of the RPI Players and their honors society Alpha Psi Omega, President of Engineers Without Borders, Director of Community Service for Alpha Phi, and a member of the Civil Engineering honors society Chi Epsilon!

In my free time, I love to go on walks/hikes and go to the farmers markets on the weekends downtown! I am also an avid customer of Stewart's Shops ice cream and like to go on ice cream runs there whenever I need a little treat/study break (my favorite is peanut butter pandemonium).

I'm a senior pursuing a dual major in Computer Science/Information Technology and Web Science as well as a minor in Economics. I became a PCA because I wanted the opportunity to help my peers improve their resumes and start their careers.

My job experience includes a software engineering internship with MathWorks, a software engineering internship with General Dynamics, and tutoring/mentoring a few computer science courses at RPI. I’m involved in several organizations around campus and have held leadership positions in the Sigma Chi fraternity, the Interfraternity Council, Bwenzi Club, and ITWS Student Leadership.

I’m a senior civil engineering major. I have been working at the CCPD since my freshman year as a work study student. I wanted to become a PCA to take the next step in my professional development and start learning how to advise and support other students’ career growth.

I have had three internships during my summers between semesters. The first was at a construction engineering company called EwingCole and the next two were at AECOM, which is a large international infrastructure consulting firm. All of these were based in my home city of Philadelphia!

At RPI I am a part of Engineers Without Borders Panama Project. Last year I was the Panama Project Lead and travelled to Panama to help observe our solar project. This year, I am EWB’s Vice President of Internal Operations. In my free time I like to read, cross stitch, knit, and hang out with my cats!

Headshot of PCA Gabby

Gabby Casey

I am a senior majoring in Chemical Engineering and minoring in Economics. I became a PCA because the CCPD has been immensely helpful in my own career and professional development journey, and I want to be able to share my experience and give back to other RPI students who are also looking to advance their professional careers. I am most interested in the pharmaceutical field and have had internships at Sterling Pharma Solutions and NorthStar Medical Radioisotopes, two pharma companies near my hometown in Wisconsin!

At RPI I am a member of the Dance Team, Alpha Phi sorority and a mentor in the Women’s Mentoring Program. In my free time I enjoy hiking, watersports and anything outdoorsy. I am a caffeine fanatic, so finding new coffee shops in downtown Troy with my friends is one of my favorite ways to reenergize after classes.

Headshot of PCA Ali

Ali Brooks

Hi! My name is Ali Brooks. I’m a Computer Science and Mathematics dual major. I became a PCA because PCAs and the CCPD helped me out a ton over the years, and I thought it was about time I gave back a little!

As a programmer, my favorite language is C/C++. My specialty is in Gameplay Engineering, Computer Graphics, and UI/UX Design. This love for game-related programming has gotten me in the doors of both Blizzard Entertainment (World of Warcraft, Diablo, Overwatch) and Firaxis Games (Civilization, XCOM). At RPI, I’ve done a fair share of URPs covering discrete mathematics, graph theory, and simulation development.

Headshot of PCA Siu

On campus, I am involved in the Society of Women Engineers, and I serve as the advocacy director. I am also a student worker at the Student Success office and assist with first-year experience students.

Outside of my academics, I enjoy spending time with friends, arts and crafts, exercising, and baking cookies.

Headshot of PCA Jack

Jack Krieg

I am a senior Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering major. I became a PCA because I wanted to further my own career development while networking within my community. I value the opportunity to learn from my peers, and am excited to help others achieve their goals.

My primary focus as an Aerospace Engineer is deep space exploration. I have had the privilege of working with some of NASA’s leading scientists via the SEES Internship program, where I identified AGNs (black holes). This program connected me with motivated students across the country who shared my passion for education and innovation, with whom I was able to co-launch our STEM-centered educational nonprofit. In recent years, my work has focused around the field of Electrical Engineering; contracting for projects ranging from accessible conveyor belts to roller-coaster operation systems.

In my free time, I enjoy weightlifting and tattooing, and like to travel whenever I get the chance.
